What is a chapli kebab?

The history of the chapli kebab

The chapli kebab is a traditional Pakistani dish that is made with ground beef, spices, and chopped onions. The word “chapli” means “flattened” in Urdu, which refers to the way the kebabs are shaped before they are cooked.

There are many different stories about the origins of the chapli kebab, but most agree that it was invented in Peshawar, Pakistan in the late 19th century. The dish became popular among the Pashtun people who lived in the area, and it soon spread to other parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Today, chapli kebabs are enjoyed by people all over the world. They are often served as an appetizer or main course, and can be found on the menus of many Pakistani and Afghan restaurants.

How to make a chapli kebab

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef

1 onion, finely chopped

2 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp coriander seeds

1 tsp red chili powder

1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 green chilies, finely chopped

1 egg, beaten

2 tbsp fresh cilantro, finely chopped
+/- 1 cup bread crumbs (as needed) //This is to ensure the kebabs are not too wet or dry. If the mixture is too wet, the kebabs will fall apart when cooking. If it's too dry, they will be dry and crumbly.

Salt to taste //I usually add about 1 teaspoon.

Oil for frying //You'll need enough to coat the bottom of your pan and shallow fry the kebabs.

Directions:

1) In a large bowl, mix together all of the ingredients except for the bread crumbs and oil. Mix well until everything is evenly distributed.

2) Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary. Add bread crumbs as needed to get the desired consistency. I like my kebabs on the drier side so I don't add too many bread crumbs.

3) Wet your hands and shape mixture into small patties/cylinders. You should be able to make about 10-12 kebabs.

4) Heat oil in a large skillet over medium
